Major Hotel Recap: Song Saa Private Island

At the end of our two weeks in Southeast Asia, I finally made it to island time! Song Saa was my first private island experience and it was LOVELY. Song Saa private island is located off the coast of Cambodia. From Siem Reap, we flew to Sianhoukville, located on the southern coast of Cambodia. This is mostly a port town, so it is not very pretty! But, it is indeed eye opening. From Sianhoukville, we boarded the Song Saa boat and made our way to the island.

There are two things that make me slightly anxious – small planes and bumpy boat rides. I had to endure both in Southeast Asia. Update: they still make me anxious. When we boarded the boat to Song Saa, the guest experience manager asked us each to put on our life vest and handed us a Dramamine. I immediately knew I was in for a special treat. Fear not, I SURVIVED and successfully made it to paradise.

The Accommodations

Song Saa private island is truly an island escape. No cell service, just wifi. There are three room products here: overwater villas, beach villas, and jungle villas. Each has their own perks. The jungle villas are great for honeymooners. They offer ample privacy and are tucked away in the hillside with beautiful, sweeping seaviews.

The beach villas offer an escape for if you never want to leave your room. Each has a private pool and a small beach area with direct ocean access. If you ordered room service for every meal, you would truly never have to leave your room.

Finally, the infamous, trending overwater bungalows. This was my first time stepping in an overwater bungalow. It is definitely a unique feeling to be residing over the water. I love that you could jump off of your pool and into the ocean a million times over. The only thing that caught me off guard was that anyone driving by on a boat could get somewhat close to your bungalow. However, I do think these are worth the hype!

Things to Do

The room types are incredible at Song Saa. And yes, you theoretically would never have to leave your room! However, there is much to be explored on the island! There are yoga classes and a beautiful workout room. You can snorkel along the beautiful coral reef or learn more about reef conservation from the resident marine biologists. You can also set out on an island safari at Koh Bong to learn about the island ecosystems while experiencing the jungle scenery. Song Saa is much more than just an island paradise. A lot is going on behind the scenes to support the island and the surrounding communities.
