Major Traveler: Top 7 Domestic Travel Hotels

Welcome to the MT Love List, a collection of our favorite hotels, resorts and destinations. February is the month of love, so why not roll with the theme! We’re kicking off our first MT Love List with the domestic travel edition. International travel, right now, is full of hoops to jump through with covid tests, authorization forms, and more. It’s navigable and exciting, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea for a relaxing vacation. Domestic travel is just a bit more feasible. And, if you find yourself in a quarantine situation, chances are you’re not too far from home.

At Major Traveler, we believe that you don’t travel until you know the possibilities of what is out there to see in the world. We want to equip you with a few of our favorites so that when you’re sitting at dinner and think, “let’s go somewhere next month”, you have a reference point to start thinking about your trip.

This list combines some of our most popular client bookings along with our personal team favorites. We’d also love to know what’s on your USA love list! Feel free to share with us in the comments! In the meantime, let’s dream about travel.

Enchantment Sedona

This is a Major Traveler client favorite! Sedona is a beautiful city situated at the base of the red rocks in Arizona. We especially love Enchantment’s casita studio rooms with a cozy fireplace and private deck. You know a place is special when it is equally perfect for honeymooners and families. For the relaxation seeker, you can spend your days at the Mii Amo spa soaking in unique rituals and treatments. More adventurous? You can take a day trip to see the Grand Canyon, get out early to explore the Red Rocks or even adventure on a mountain bike!

The Cloister Sea Island

Maybe it’s the Georgia in us or maybe it’s the fact that The Cloister is iconic to the Southeast, but we are a big fan of this resort. We’ve planned mini-moons, girl’s weekend, family getaways, and more to Sea Island. You can take your pick of accommodations based on your price point and desires for a getaway. We love the cottages – they’re perfect for sharing with another family! We also love the River View rooms at The Cloister, where you are steps away from a beautiful Sea Island sunset.

Pro tip: rent a bike at the hotel and ride 5-miles to St. Simons for a grouper sandwich at Mullet Bay.

Montage Deer Valley

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that we are very partial to the magic of Deer Valley. Maybe it’s the casual environment of an all-skiiers resort or maybe it’s the cookies the size of your head at lunch. Maybe it’s both! The Montage is a MT client favorite in both summer and winter. It’s perfectly situated at the base of the mountain in Empire Pass. We love that this area of the mountain is a little bit quieter and more low key, yet well located to the hustle and bustle if you so wish to seek it out. It’s tough to decide what we love most, but we might choose the complimentary nightly Montage s’mores!

Sorrel River Ranch

Nothing beats a vacation to one of the USA’s iconic landmarks. Some of these include Moab, Utah, Arches National Park and Canyonlands. Sorrel River Ranch sits right on the Colorado River and offers ample activities – horseback riding, jeep tours, mountain biking, hot air balloons and river rafting. Plus, you’re conveniently located for daily hikes within Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.

Sorrel River Ranch offers a typical “ranch” experience that families often desire on a trip out west. Many of these western ranches are secluded – part of what makes them an incredible experience. The cool thing about Sorrel River Ranch is that you are close to these landmarks and can spend your days exploring outside of the resort. It’s the best of both worlds if you ask us!

Cheeca Lodge

Tropical and beach-y is the theme here! Sure, the Keys don’t have the world’s best beaches, but it’s tropical and a guaranteed warm for most of the year. If you’re hoping for that “resort” fix, consider the Florida Keys. Cheeca Lodge has become a client favorite in Islamorada. It’s an affordable, quick getaway with chic accommodations and an oceanfront setting. You can spend your days as active or relaxed as you’d like. We recommend a fishing trip – something the Florida Keys are known for!

Andaz Maui

We have to include Hawaii on our love list! Hawaii is a chain of islands, each with their individual charm and character. We love the modern, sleek Andaz Maui for clients both young and old. Whether it’s the multiple pools, the chic beach chairs, or the ever-so-convenient pool bar, there is something for everyone here. The resort also has multi-bedroom villas that are perfect for the entire family.

Pro-tip: the villas come with additional amenities for the entire family. Make sure to reach out to our team to weigh which accommodation can offer you the best value!

Four Seasons Philadelphia

The Four Seasons Philadelphia is still a new and fresh property – renovated just a few years ago. It is located at the top of the tallest building in the city, so the views quite literally cannot be beat. The lobby and restaurant are located on the highest floor and made entirely of floor to ceiling windows, making it the most breathtaking place to have a meal in the city. Even after the first year of opening, you could find the bar with a 2+ hour wait. The food is phenomenal, the beds are the coziest, and it is the perfect place to stay in one of America’s most historical, and fun, cities.

If you’re ready to plan travel, or simply want to chat about your options, reach out to us on our contact form here. While we haven’t been everywhere, our team is based all around the USA and in many of these cities. We love to help you navigate what locations best fit your priority list.
