Major Traveler: Top 8 Bucket List Destinations

Bucket List properties can be defined as many different things depending on the type of traveler. Most of the times, a bucket list destination feels unattainable, far away, yet so aspirational. It is a place that only wanders in your imagination as a far off dream. When you get to planning, you realize that maybe your bucket list hotels and destinations are not, in fact, too far out of reach. They are quite attainable with careful planning and proper lead time.

Sometimes a bucket list hotel is a destination in and of itself. Sometimes a bucket list hotel is a unique, immersive experience that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. And sometimes, a bucket list hotel is just simply really, really cool.

We’ve been most excited about bucket list destinations as part of the MT Love Lists this month. What’s on your bucket list? Beyond that – how can we make it happen?

Tierra Patagonia, Chile

We don’t like to make such bold statements, but Patagonia just might be at the tip top of our bucket list. The rugged mountains and beauty for miles with zero interruptions seem to really call our name. Tierra Patagonia is one of those magical places that blends into its surroundings. It’s understated elegance in decor, allowing you to feel pampered, yet totally immerse yourself into the destination.

The best part? It’s all-inclusive! Tierra Patagonia allows you to seamlessly experience the magic of Patagonia with hiking, fishing, biking, kayaking, birdwatching, horseback riding, and so many more excursions.

The Brando – Tahiti

We know that overwater bungalows are all the rage these days. And we get it – it’s a really magical experience! But, we think The Brando in Tetiaroa is even more magical. Best known as Marlin Brando’s private island, this is an all-villa resort with some of the most incredible biodiversity and scenery in the world. The resort combines luxury and sustainability in all that they do. You’ll learn the beauty of natural luxury as you immerse yourself in the island’s magic.

J.K. Place Capri, Italy

The iconic crisp blue and white hues of J.K. Place Capri speak to the design lovers soul. But what’s even better about this property? At night, Capri seems to sparkle. All of the travelers who venture to the island for a simple day experience start to float away and only a few travelers remain. With its hilly terrain, J.K. Place is perfectly positioned for sweeping Mediterranean views from your room. Elegance, sophistication, exclusivity – we’d like to spend all of the time in the world at J.K. Place.

Nihi Sumba, Indonesia

“Socially Distant, Wildly Connected. This is not an escape from everyday life. It is the return to a life well lived”. That’s the motto of Nihi Sumba, the island where horses run wild (and so might your spirit!). Nihi Sumba isn’t as far off as you might imagine. It’s a flight away from Bali in Indonesia. We personally love the contrast of experiences here from cultural immersion to learning about the landscape and getting out on the water. With only 28 villas, the island maintains an intimate and private feel with stunning panoramic views of the Indian Ocean at every turn.

Victoria Falls River Lodge, Island Treehouse, Zimbabwe, Africa

As lovers of Africa, we have had a personal crush on the Victoria Falls Island Treehouse suites for quite some time. You’ll take a boat across the Zambezi River to arrive at this completely private experience. The suites each feature a private deck, plunge pool, personal butler service, AC and an indoor/outdoor floor plan. Oh, did we mention that the suites are built to sit over the river? Even talking about it has us excited to GO! You can watch more here

Four Seasons Tented Camp, Golden Triangle

This property takes the Four Seasons out of its Four Seasons classic upscale luxury and places it in the heart of the jungle in the form of a tented camp. Situated on the Mekong River near the intersection of Thailand, Burma and Laos, it’s a place where African Safari décor meets Asian warmth and hospitality. Sometimes the best bucket list hotels are a destination in their own.

Longitude 131, Australia

There are quite literally so many properties we adore in this country, but we feel that Uluru/Ayers Rock often gets overlooked as a destination stop since there are so many other cities, with beaches, to see. Not only is this region deeply historical, and sacred, to Australia but it is breathtaking. You are literally in the heart of the country, in the middle of the outback, in incredible accommodations. It’s more than a stay – it is an entire experience.

Fogo Island Inn, Canada

This is easily one of the top 5 dreamiest properties we have ever seen. The windows! The ocean! The stars! The area has SEVEN seasons, so there is a time for everyone. In the summers, you can hike, bike, or enjoy Fogo Island’s Music Festivals. In Pack Ice season, you can see the majestic pack ice move and groove with the currents. Plus, it’s still cold enough for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and more of those favorite winter activities. It is the perfect place to genuinely getaway, unplug, and relax. Plus – how romantic?!
