A Long Weekend in Charleston, South Carolina

I’ve paid a visit to Charleston, South Carolina over Labor Day for the last two years and it’s proved to be the best end to summer. My best friend, Laura Deems, is one of Charleston’s best artists (subtle brag). I have been to Charleston many times to visit friends and run a marathon (!!), but these have been my two favorite visits. It is always the perfect combination of great food and wonderful time with friends. There are many, many things to do, but here is a list of my favorite things for a long weekend in Charleston.

The Battery is filled with beautiful history, greenery, sea views, and colorful Charleston houses. I suggest a very, very long morning stroll.

If you’re ever at a loss of what to do in Charleston South Carolina, walk in and out of the plethora of stores on King Street. There is everything from Madewell and Anthropologie to smaller boutiques such as Copper Penny and Luna.

Pop in Savannah Bee Company and sample each of the honeys. After you’ve tasted honeys, walk around the corner and smell candles at Candlefish. All the feels from all the senses.

Stop by the Farmers Market for an easy Saturday morning in Marion Square. The multitude of vendors have it all, from breakfast biscuits to fresh bread and homemade artistic crafts.

Visit the City Market on Meeting Street. It is an indoor and outdoor market filled with everything under the sun. Take in the eclectic atmosphere that buzzes with art, sweet grass baskets, and delicious food.

Grab a drink at The Dewberry hotel, near Marion Square. The lobby has a unique rustic vibe and if you pop in on the weekend, you’ll likely catch some live music.

The new Workshop is Charleston’s take on a Krog Street Market / Pike Place Market / Chelsea Market. You get where I’m going.

Pack up your car and head to the beach on Sullivan’s Island for the day. It is a short drive from Charleston and has the cutest beach town.

Rainbow Row is the iconic picture spot in Charleston. It is a row of old houses
